Leon Lopinski and Jozefa Ochowiak were married in Janikowo Poland in 1925. Their first four children were born in close succession: Wanda in 1926, Wladek in 1927, Seweryn in 1928, and Mieczyslaw in 1929. In the words of Babcia Jozia, “co rok prorok.”

In 1933 they purchased a farm in Gurowatki. Three additional children, Zenon, Stasia, and Jasio were born there. World War II saw their family displaced, first to Erp in Germany, near to Koln, and later to Lippstadt.
In January 1949, brothers Wladek (Walter), Seweryn (Sam) and Mieczyslaw (Henry) sailed to Canada with a contract to work in a gold mine in Geraldton, Ontario. The other family members followed, and the rest is history. The seven Lopinski siblings and their spouses all settled in southern Ontario, and the family has continued to grow.
